Songs

Coming straight out of Flint, Michigan, the historic Vehicle City that has changed the industrial revolution forever with the emergence of General Motors, has put this city on the map. But the Flint that Vaughn K. Davis knows is the Flint, a century later. A town that was once a striving community is now known as yet another American rustbelt city.

Drivers can go blocks down Flint's tree-lined streets without seeing a single occupied home. Vacant, abandoned, unoccupied houses make up more than fifty percent of the city. Davis' childhood home being one of them. With the lack of jobs since General Motors has closed up shop and went overseas, the local economy has tanked while violence continues to rise. Every day is a struggle for many Flint natives.

Currently the area is facing another crises, this time with the drinking water. High traces of lead found in the city's pipelines has brought illness and death due to the effects of lead poisoning. Seeing and living through such a struggle is what motivates Davis' lyrics. The struggle is real...and we are in this together. His music is a fun yet gritty escape depicting life in Flint and those affected by the devastation post-GM. Below is a description of the lyrics and what inspired Davis during the recording of this album.

  • She is man's first teacher.

  • Her honey milk helps make man stronger to battle enemies.

  • Age of Aquarius.

  • Hatin' the ladies that make the babies.

  • Three important elements in Hip-Hop: Cars, Weed and Jewels, are lashings, being doped and shackled?

  • Our glorious essence being used.

  • I said I was King even before I knew I was.

  • My Head, my fro is my crown.

  • Setting up the flag.

  • God within you awakens to have a human experience.
